SSRC Eurasia Program
Institutional Grants Competition Summer Language Institutes for the Languages of the New States of Eurasia (SuLI)

The Eurasia Program is not offering a SuLI grant competition during the 2008-2009 academic year.

The Eurasia Program of the Social Science Research Council regrets to announce that, due to a recent shift in funding, a program of support for the summer language training programs of the New States of Eurasia is not being offered in the coming year. Applications for summer 2010 institutes are not being accepted at this time and applications for the 2009 session (submitted in 2007) are currently on hold pending receipt of additional funding and internal evaluations.

In past years, the Title VIII SSRC-Eurasia Program accepted applications on an annual basis. Grants were awarded to recipient institutes to help provide fellowships to promising students as well as financial assistance to teachers enrolling in intensive summer programs in the languages of the New States of Eurasia. Grants have also supported cultural activities that compliment the formal language curriculum in such programs. Languages supported by the program have included Armenian, Azeri, Georgian, Kazakh, Tajik, Uighur, Russian, Turkmen, Ukrainian and Uzbek.

The SSRC is in the process of evaluating the status of its SuLI grants program. Please refer back to the website for more information about future offerings in the coming months.

Please contact the Eurasia Program for additional information.
