Meeting of Muslim- and Arab-American Community Leaders
Washington, DC
September 20, 2004
The Social Science Research Council convened Muslim- and Arab-American leaders in the United States in an all-day meeting in September 2004 to discuss the effects of the post-9/11 policies and practices of the U.S. Government on their communities, as well as their conceptions of homeland or national security in the wake of the 9/11 attacks and related issues. The participants offered candid thoughts on the lives and experiences of their individual communities, and voiced the concerns and opinions of those most directly impacted by these new policies. Also participating were members of the consultative group of scholars of the project, SSRC staff, and a representative of the Carnegie Corporation of New York. The discussion was organized by the Program on Global Security & Cooperation at SSRC in its Washington, D.C., office, and was enabled by a grant from the Carnegie Corporation of New York. Please refer to the discussion abstract for further information about the themes that were discussed.
