Nancy Haught: I have been a religion writer at The Oregonian for almost six years. I began as a religion reporter at The Spokane Daily Chronicle in 1977. I earned a Master's degree in Journalism at the University of Oregon, worked as a copy editor at The Oregonian and then as a reporter at The Catholic Sentinel, the official paper of the Archdiocese of Portland. I went back to school and earned a Master's degree in Religious Studies from Union Theological Seminary in New York City.

After Union, I came back to Portland and taught comparative religion at a Catholic girls prep school. But I missed writing and so the occasional free-lance piece turned into a real position at The Oregonian.

I have a wide ranging interest in religion, as the way that many different people find meaning in their lives. Coming from one of the most "unchurched" states in the country, I see no shortage in interest in all things spiritual. I try to be open to the experience of Oregonians, aware of how it fits into the broad experience of other Americans and of people of the world. I have been married for almost 20 years and have two teen-age sons.
