Educating Immigrant Youth: Pathways to Employment and Citizenship in International Perspective

The London meeting, held at the offices of the Nuffield Foundation, brought together scholars from Europe and North America with a range of disciplinary backgrounds and regional expertise. The group discussed variation in ideas about the role of education in promoting social mobility and equity, and in shaping cultural and civic identities; the presence or absence of specific educational policies or programs designed to promote the integration of immigrant students; the timing of key decision points and procedures for tracking students into academic or vocational schools or programs; and broader questions of the articulation between educational institutions and the labor market. Several scholars presented papers that are currently being revised for publication as an edited volume. To see the meeting agenda, click here).
