Middle East and North Africa

The Program on the Middle East & North Africa seeks to initiate discussions of new visions of the region (including re-examining the notion of region itself) and new and different kinds of networks between scholars who work on the region. Several foci are relevant to this agenda, including: new regionalisms, migration and the state, cross-border and cross-regional research, social and cultural histories, conditions of higher education, inclusion and exclusion in Middle East research, and the contexts of international research collaboration.

An important part of the program is a study of Middle East Studies (MES) centers on U.S. campuses, with a special focus on the role of these centers in promoting interdisciplinarity and internationalization in the field. This study has recently been extended to include U.S. Title VI National Resource Centers for Eurasia and South Asia, as well as the Middle East.

Several new projects are in development for the MENA Program. Please revisit these pages to learn about them. To view recently concluded activities of the MENA Program please click on links to the left.
